Job Description
The Assistant School Leader of Instruction is responsible for driving strong academic results for scholars through demonstrating instructional leadership competencies, establishing a clear instructional vision, and motivating others to follow that vision. The ASL of Instruction manages teachers, leads professional development, and helps create a positive school culture as part of the leadership team.
Position type:
Full-time, 12 months, Exempt
Core responsibilities include:
Data-Driven Instructional Leadership
- Develop proficiency in Observation Feedback, Weekly Data Meetings, and Lesson Internalization protocols.
- Manage teacher performance to achieve student outcomes through weekly coaching sessions, providing feedback, and developing instructional strategies based on observations and data analysis.
- Track all relevant data in Whetstone and other data systems, including student achievement data.
- Facilitate assessment data cycles, including quizzes, internalization, and quarterly data analysis.
- Drive performance through regular student data analysis and action planning.
- Coordinate assessment administration and manage related technology inventory with the ASL of Operations.
Performance Management and Professional Development
- Lead teacher cohorts to set and meet development goals based on student achievement data.
- Collaborate on school-wide rituals and create systems supporting staff and student success.
- Build effective teams with trust, accountability, and clear ownership of results.
- Support teachers’ growth and hold them accountable.
- Plan and lead school-wide professional development and follow-up systems.
- Manage personal professional growth through feedback, regional resources, and external opportunities.
- Maintain organizational systems, prioritize projects, and manage time effectively.
- Identify and develop high-potential staff and manage performance with the school leader's support.
- Manage outside partnerships as assigned.
School Culture and Climate
- Conduct weekly walkthroughs focused on academic monitoring and coaching.
- Lead or co-lead school-wide rituals and initiatives.
- Own and maintain school routines and norms, ensuring they are proficiently executed.
- Uphold school culture norms and accountability in classrooms and shared spaces.
Leadership Mindset and Action
- Participate in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
- Collaborate as part of the leadership teams to meet school goals.
- Promote team unity and ensure consistent messaging.
- Model values, embrace challenging conversations, and address issues directly.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred)
- Teaching and Administrator Certificates
- Proven student achievement results
- Experience coaching teachers
- Strong belief in all students’ potential
- High work ethic and patience
- Excellent organizational and collaboration skills
- Criminal Background Check
- Proficiency with Google systems
