Job description

North Side Community School is seeking a visionary, growth-minded Middle School Assistant Principal Fellow to join our middle school leadership team. Designed as a one-year leadership development role, this fellowship provides intensive, hands-on administrative experience in culture systems, scholar support, multi-tiered behavioral frameworks, and extended-day management. Upon successful completion and strong performance during the fellowship year, this role transitions into the full Assistant Principal position for the following school year.

The Assistant Principal Fellow will serve as an essential leader of campus climate, discipline, and student culture. Driven by a positive, forward-thinking mindset, this leader will actively cultivate a joyful, structured, and restorative environment where middle school scholars build character and achieve academic excellence. Additionally, the Fellow will hold administrative ownership over Middle School Extended Day programming, serving as the primary administrator on duty during extended hours.

Essential Functions
  • Multi-Tiered Behavior Systems: Lead the implementation and management of Tier 2 and Tier 3 student discipline and intervention frameworks across the middle school campus.
  • PBIS & ClassDojo Incentives: Drive Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), including management of the ClassDojo store, scholar reward systems, and positive reinforcement initiatives.
  • Restorative Interventions: Facilitate restorative circles, mediation, conflict resolution, and structured re-entry meetings following behavior incidents to emphasize repair, reflection, and growth.
  • Support Team Collaboration: Partner closely with leadership, counselors, social workers, and instructional staff through the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework to design and track individualized scholar support plans.
2. School Climate, Culture & Transitions
  • Culture Leadership: Build and sustain a joyful, safe, and high-expectation middle school culture that reinforces positive scholar identity, mutual respect, and accountability.
  • Common Area Management: Provide an active, visible leadership presence during key daily transitions, including arrival, hallway passing periods, lunch/recess, and dismissal.
  • Staff Culture Coaching: Model, train, and coach teachers and staff on trauma-informed behavior responses, PBIS strategies, and restorative practices.
3. Middle School Extended Day Administration
  • Extended Day Leadership: Serve as the designated Administrator on Duty for Middle School Extended Day programming, ensuring school-day expectations, safety protocols, and routines carry over seamlessly.
  • Operational Oversight: Supervise extended-day staff, manage daily student attendance, ensure clear escalation pathways for incidents, and maintain safe dismissal operations.
  • Program Enrichment: Collaborate with extended-day partners and staff to deliver structured enrichment, academic support, and extracurricular activities that engage middle school scholars.
4. Weekly Data Monitoring & Leadership Analytics
  • Behavior & Attendance Tracking: Conduct rigorous weekly data monitoring on student behavior referrals, repeat incidents, discipline, and campus attendance goals.
  • Data-Driven Action Steps: Translate data trends into actionable intervention strategies, staff adjustments, and targeted scholar support plans.
  • Leadership Reporting: Present regular data updates and culture insights to the Principal and campus leadership team to guide continuous improvement.
5. Family & Community Engagement
  • Proactive Communication: Serve as a key point of contact for families regarding student behavior, PBIS celebrations, attendance goals, and Extended Day updates.
  • Restorative Family Conferences: Conduct timely, collaborative family meetings to address behavioral concerns and build trust between home and school.
  • Year 1 (Fellowship): Immersive administrative leadership, structured executive coaching from the Principal, and direct ownership of middle school culture, discipline, extended-day operations, and daily summer school operations.
  • Year 2 (Transition): Contingent upon successful performance, evaluation, and organizational alignment during Year 1, the Fellow will formally transition into the Middle School Assistant Principal role.
Skills & Characteristics
  • Growth Mindset: A positive, forward-thinking, solution-oriented mindset with an eagerness to learn, grow, and receive executive leadership coaching.
  • Culturally Relevant and Trauma-Informed Practices: A shared lens of trauma-informed and culturally relevant practices.
  • Restorative Practices Background: Strong foundational background in restorative practices, trauma-informed care, and PBIS frameworks, or a strong willingness and commitment to learn and master these approaches.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of successful relevant teaching or educational leadership experience in a middle/high school or urban school environment.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; master's degree or coursework in Educational Leadership, School Counseling, or Administration preferred.
  • Certification: Valid Teacher Certification required; Administrator Certification preferred or in progress.
