The Elisabeth Morrow School, a leader in education from early childhood through middle school, seeks a passionate, creative, and nurturing full-time Art teacher to teach fifth through eighth grades for the 2025–2026 school year. This position will report to the head of middle school and work collaboratively with our Innovation, Creativity, and Inquiry (ICI) department and colleagues. The successful candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of visual arts education and be enthusiastic about sharing a love of art in and out of the classroom.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Create, plan, and execute lessons and activities that introduce students to the basic techniques and concepts of visual art using the agreed-upon curriculum, content, and resources.
- Develop a positive and joyful classroom environment that engages and motivates students to achieve their potential.
- Foster relationships with students, faculty, and families.
- Collaborate with colleagues in various capacities, including planning, evaluating student growth, mentoring, and peer observations.
- Communicate with faculty, staff, students, and families in a considerate, compassionate, courteous, and cooperative manner.
- Embrace our core values and mission.
- Attend conferences and participate in other professional development to deliver best-in-class teaching to inspire developing minds.
- Assess and report on student development and academic progress.
- Prepare written reports twice a year and hold conferences, both formal and informal, with families.
- Meet the needs of our students outside of the school day schedule, including planning and supporting club activities and other extracurricular opportunities.
Essential Qualifications
- Be capable of facilitating differentiated lessons and provide an atmosphere in which children feel safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.
- Possess strong communication and organizational skills.
Schedule Requirements
The individual in this role is expected to be their best self, Monday–Friday, 7:45 a.m.–3:45 p.m., and 4:45 p.m. on Mondays for faculty meetings. Occasional attendance at school-related functions is required outside of these regular hours.
