Sentry Insurance Company is seeking an Underwriting Specialist/Senior Underwriting Specialist in Colorado to apply underwriting policy, philosophy and procedures for evaluating submitted business. The role supports complex, larger accounts and involves collaboration with agency partners and internal sales teams.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, 5+ years in underwriting, and knowledge of reinsurance. Travel is limited; opportunities exist for growth and training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of related work experience.
• Previous insurance underwriting experience, middle market underwriting experience in construction, manufacturing, wholesale, real estate, and service industries preferred.
• Completion or in the process of taking insurance courses such as IIA and CPCU preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of specific product line insurance concepts and terminology.
• Comprehensive knowledge of reinsurance procedures.
• Effective analytical, human relations, and communication skills.
• Limited Travel.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite, price, and program individual policies/accounts with agency/internal sales partners.
• Handle complex underwriting assignments and refer business outside of authority limits.
• Evaluate procedures for effectiveness and recommend changes.
• Collaborate with rating, audit, safety sciences, customer accounting, and customer service teams.
• Train other underwriters and conduct training on underwriting procedures.
