The Department of Middle Eastern Studies at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a professional-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction. The position will begin in the Fall semester of the 2027-28 academic year. Duties will include teaching Hebrew as a foreign language at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additional teaching responsibilities may be required, such as courses on Hebrew/Israeliculture and undergraduate Hebrew language content courses. We seek candidates interested in a career devoted to teaching and general service to the university. Professional-track faculty are encouraged to fully integrate into the university's faculty and intellectual life, with opportunities for advancement through promotion and multi-year contracts.
A Ph.D. in Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures, Comparative Literature, Jewish Studies, or a related field and two years of experience teaching Hebrew or Hebrew Literature are required. Preferred qualifications include training in comparative literature and at least one year of experience teaching Yiddish.
