Job summary

Sysco is seeking a CDL-A driver to operate in a backhaul routes environment, loading at night and delivering to customers during night and day shifts. You will work in a cross-dock model, provide excellent customer relations, and assist with loading trucks when needed.

The role requires a valid Class A license, at least one year of route delivery experience, and the ability to perform pre-trip inspections under DOT and Sysco policies. English proficiency is required.

Qualifications

• One year route delivery experience or driving a tractor and trailer.

• Must be able to read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the public and complete records.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical, customer relations, and personnel management for major programs and projects.
• Runs routes efficiently, meeting or exceeding designated route times.
• Lifts/pushes/pulls items up to 75 pounds (up to 100 pounds occasionally).
• Verify delivery with customer and obtain signatures; contact management for invoice discrepancies.
• Communicate all errors/returns and handle shorts with customers.
• Handle complaints professionally and maintain proper use of company equipment.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections in accordance with DOT and Sysco policies.

JOB SUMMARY

All backhaul drivers run routes with one or more stops and are required to deliver them as assigned in the order they are designated by the Transportation Department Manager. The candidate will operate successfully in a cross-dock model picking up a loaded truck from the OPCO (operating company) nightly and driving during the night and day to our customers. The driver may be required to assist occasionally with loading-trucks, palletizing product, and performing other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide technical, customer relations, and personnel management for major programs and projects.
• Runs routes efficiently, meeting or exceeding designated route times.
• On occasions may require lifting, pushing, or moving and delivering a product that weighs 1-75 pounds, up to 100 pounds
• Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures. Contact management for authorization when discrepancies on invoice and communicate all errors/returns.
• Calls in when a customer does not receive their entire order (shorts)
• Handles any customer complaints professionally
• Handles company equipment properly, follow written driver safety rules, and performs a pre-trip inspection.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip responsibilities in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and Sysco policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• High School or GED or equivalent

Experience

• One year route delivery experience or applicable background driving a tractor and trailer.
• Valid Commercial Driver's License - Class A
• Commercial Vehicle Drivers must have the ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.

Physical Demands
