Mid-Level UX Researcher - Contract, Remote (U.S.)
As a UX Researcher at UpTop, you will contribute to a wide range of projects using a design thinking mindset and lean UX research methodologies. You’ll be responsible for planning and executing research that uncovers user needs, behaviors, and motivations to inform user experience design and business strategy. This role requires a self-starter who is skilled at both qualitative and quantitative research, thrives in a collaborative environment, and can work independently with guidance from senior team members. What You'll Do:
- Partner with UX designers and/or business stakeholders to identify research needs and define objectives
- Design and execute research strategies across various methods such as user interviews, usability testing, surveys, ethnographic studies, card sorting, and A/B testing
- Analyze both qualitative and quantitative data to uncover patterns and generate actionable insights
- Create research artifacts including journey maps, personas, research plans, and usability reports
- Advocate for user needs throughout the product development lifecycle
- Contribute to discovery and requirements gathering through stakeholder interviews and competitive analysis
- Present findings in a clear and compelling manner to both internal teams and clients
- Help define KPIs and metrics to measure user experience improvements over time
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including design, marketing, product management, and sales
- Guide and support designers, if necessary, in applying research insights to design work
- Prioritize research activities based on project timelines and business impact
Required:
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Ability to balance depth and speed of research depending on context
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and working autonomously when needed
- Experience working on multiple, concurrent activities in a fast-paced environment
- Proven ability to distill complex findings into simple, actionable recommendations
- Deep understanding of human-centered design and UX principles
- Familiarity with tools such as UserTesting, Optimal Workshop, Dovetail, Lookback, and Figma (for collaboration)
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in UX research, preferably within an agency, consultancy, or freelance setting

- This is a contract opportunity for independent consultants (1099) who operate as registered business entities or LLCs; not a full-time employment position.
- Work is fully remote (U.S.-based only)
