Join Our Growing Team at A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT)! We are currently seeking a Structural/Bridge Engineer with 5+ years of experience in the analysis and design of new and rehabilitated structures to join our structural engineering team in Columbus, Ohio .

About the Role:

As a key member of our team, you will apply your strong design expertise to manage tasks and projects, mentor junior engineers, and lead efforts on ODOT and LPA bridge projects, retaining walls, load ratings, and other related structural assignments. You will support a wide range of transportation infrastructure projects across Ohio, with opportunities to collaborate on out-of-state projects through AMT’s interoffice staff utilization program. This cross-regional involvement enhances your resume, broadens your technical experience, and builds a robust professional network across DOTs, counties, and municipalities.

Responsibilities

• Prepares/performs and checks structural analysis, design plans, specifications, and estimates for bridge projects while working collaboratively with multi-discipline design teams.
• Provides experience in project planning including general oversight, design, implementation, and ensures quality of work products.
• Maintains knowledge of ODOT and other state DOT’s, along with local public agency design standards and criteria, practices, and policies.
• Leads/mentors team members through the design process.
• Ability to serve in a lead technical role on bridge or structural design projects.
• Analyzes deteriorated components and assesses remaining capacities.
• Develops/prepares construction documents (drawings, specifications, and cost estimates).
• Performs structural inspections/field investigations (if needed) and prepares related reports.
• Assist with preparing and coordinating structural technical reports, cost estimates, marketing, and fee proposals.
• Performs QA/QC review of documents prepared by others in accordance with AMT’s Quality Management Plan.
• Participate in business development, project pursuits including alternative delivery, and project meetings including the ability to lead and facility meetings with clients.
• Reviews and processes contractor’s Request for Information (RFI) and shop drawing submittals.
• Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution. Master's degree in Structural Engineering is a plus.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire.
• 5+ years of experience in bridge design and analysis including concrete and steel structures.
• Experience that includes planning, inspection, design (new and rehabilitated), load ratings, contract documentation, and construction support services.
• Knowledge of ODOT design standards, criteria, practices, and policies.
• Desired proficiency in any of the following software: Bentley OpenBridge Designer, LARSA 4D, LPile, MDX, Descus, AASHTOWare BrR, Merlin DASH, spColumn, Bentley MicroStation and/or OpenRoads/Bridge software.
• Valid driver's license in good standing.
• Ability and willingness to travel as required. Travel is primarily local and typically does not require an overnight stay. Some weekly travel may be required on occasion.
• All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, project managers, supervisors, and other team members.

• Physical Requirements:
• Majority of work is office based. Position requires ability to use standard office equipment. Some field work may be required, which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment. Field work includes exposure to extreme heat, cold or inclement weather. Some travel may be required.
