Job summary

Eastern Research Group, Inc. (ERG) in Fairfax, VA seeks a Mid-Level Environmental Scientist to support NPDES permitting across the United States.

The role requires 3–10 years of experience with NPDES programs and a track record of technical report writing, data analysis, and coordination with regulators and project teams. You will work with a multidisciplinary group of engineers, scientists, and policy experts.

Qualifications

• Experience with NPDES program implementation or other water-related environmental programs.
• Familiarity with the NPDES permitting program and regulations pertaining to wastewater and stormwater.
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
• Strong data analytical skills.
• Proficiency in conducting desktop research.
• Ability to work alone and within a multi-disciplinary team.
• Willingness to travel locally and across the United States as necessary.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and revise NPDES permits, fact sheets, and related documents.
• Review permit applications, discharge data, and facility records for regulatory relevance.
• Characterize industrial and municipal processes, sources, and treatment systems.
• Develop technology-based effluent limitations using guidelines and standards.
• Evaluate need for water quality-based limitations and perform analyses.
