Job summary

ERG's Fairfax, VA office seeks a Mid-Level Environmental Scientist with 3-10 years of experience supporting Clean Water Act-related environmental efforts across the United States. The role emphasizes independence in permitting, regulatory interpretation, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

You will develop and review NPDES permits, analyze discharge data, and prepare technical reports under supervision of senior staff.

Qualifications

• Experience with NPDES program implementation or other water-related environmental programs.
• Familiarity with NPDES permitting and regulations for wastewater and stormwater.
• Strong writing and oral communication skills.
• Ability to travel locally and across the United States as needed (limited first year).

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and revise NPDES permits and related documents.
• Review permit applications, discharge records, and other materials for regulatory relevance.
• Characterize wastewater sources, treatment systems, and discharges.
• Develop tech-based effluent limitations and monitor compliance.
• Coordinate with permitting authorities and project teams to resolve issues.
• Prepare technical memoranda, regulatory analyses, and SOPs.
