Job summary

ERG’s Fairfax, VA office is seeking a Mid-Level Environmental Scientist with 3-10 years of experience supporting Clean Water Act-related environmental efforts across the United States. The role emphasizes independent management of permit portions, data analysis, and effective communication with regulators and permittees.

Qualifications

• Experience with NPDES program implementation.
• Familiarity with NPDES permitting regulations for wastewater and stormwater.
• MS/BS/BA in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Engineering or related field.
• Excellent written and oral communication; strong data analysis.
• Willingness to travel locally and nationwide.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and revise NPDES permits, fact sheets, notices, and supporting records.
• Review permit applications, reports, and technical materials for regulatory relevance.
• Characterize wastewater sources, treatment processes, and discharge locations.
• Develop effluent limitations using guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Evaluate water quality-based limitations and perform POTW/LA analyses.
• Prepare monitoring, reporting, and compliance documents.
• Coordinate with authorities and stakeholders to resolve permitting issues.
• Support public participation activities and respond to comments.
• Track assignments, budgets, and schedules across multiple permits.
