Job summary

System One, Inc. seeks a Mid-Level Java API Developer to design, build, and maintain APIs and microservices. You will work with teams to enhance features, improve performance, and ensure high-quality RESTful services. Proficiency with Spring, OpenShift, and CI/CD tools is required.

Onsite in Pittsburgh, PA, 4+ years of Java/J2EE experience and strong collaboration skills are expected. You will engage with stakeholders and participate in Agile processes to deliver scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of Java/J2EE development experience.
• Strong REST API, Spring Boot, Spring Framework experience.
• SOAP/REST web services in production environments (4+ years).
• Experience with OpenShift, containerization, and microservices.
• GitHub, Jenkins, and CI/CD tooling proficiency.
• Front-end basics: Node.js and Angular (v8+).
• Kubernetes, Kafka, and MongoDB experience a plus.
• SQL Server/Oracle database integration experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and implement APIs, microservices, and backend components.
• Collaborate with development teams to build and enhance API features at scale.
• Improve API standards, performance, and service quality.
• Develop and unit test Java-based RESTful services that integrate with external systems.
• Utilize DevOps tools including Jenkins, uDeploy, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Review technical design documents and provide feedback on solutions, estimates, and implementation approaches.
• Create technical designs for new applications and enhancements to existing systems.
• Translate business and functional requirements into scalable system designs.
• Prioritize work effectively and meet project deadlines.
• Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, architects, developers, and external partners.
• Research and recommend frameworks, libraries, and tools to streamline development efforts.
• Participate in Agile development processes and code reviews.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in Java/J2EE development.
• Strong experience with REST APIs, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, XML, JSON, and Swagger/OpenAPI.
• 4+ years of experience developing and consuming SOAP and REST web services in production environments.
• Experience building APIs and microservices in large-scale enterprise environments.
• Experience with OpenShift, containerization, and microservices architecture.
• 3+ years of experience using GitHub, Jenkins, and CI/CD tools.
• Knowledge of front-end technologies such as Node.js and Angular (version 8+ preferred).
• Experience with Kubernetes, Apache Kafka, and MongoDB.
• Experience integrating Java applications with Oracle and/or SQL Server databases.
• Hands-on experience developing secure REST APIs and implementing application security best practices.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies and Agile practices.
• Excellent collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Skills

• Enterprise application development experience.
• Experience working in highly regulated or large-scale environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and performance optimization capabilities.
• Exposure to cloud-native technologies and modern application architecture patterns.
