Job summary

Schnabel is seeking a mid-level Geotechnical Engineer in Blacksburg, VA to support our growing business with detailed geotechnical analysis and client interaction.

The ideal candidate will have ABET-accredited civil engineering training, a Virginia PE or eligibility to obtain within 6 months, and 5+ years of consulting geotechnical experience. Proficiency with LPILE, GeoStudio, AutoCAD is essential, with strong communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited civil engineering degree; master’s preferred.
• Virginia Professional Engineer registration or within 6 months of hire.
• 5+ years of consulting geotechnical engineering experience.
• Proficiency with LPILE, APILE, SHAFT, GeoStudio, Settle3D and FoSSA; AutoCAD/GIS skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop geotechnical scope of services and fee estimates.
• Plan and oversee geotechnical investigations.
• Manage geotechnical and construction phase observation and testing field work.
• Assign, review and interpret geotechnical laboratory tests.
• Create basic plans and figures using AutoCAD and GIS.
• Perform geotechnical engineering analysis and calculations.
• Develop geotechnical engineering recommendations and reports.
• Project management: resources, budgets, invoicing and backlog.
• Manage client relationships and business development opportunities.
• Mentor junior engineers; collaborate with Schnabel offices.
• Balance workload and coordinate across teams; field work as needed.
