Job summary

Build Talent LLC in Houston is seeking a Junior to Mid-Level Construction Estimator with 2–5 years of commercial estimating experience for ground-up projects. The role requires a solid understanding of costs, drawings, specifications, and subcontractor scopes to prepare accurate estimates.

You will perform quantity takeoffs, review bid documents, solicit subcontractor proposals, and help develop bid packages while coordinating with Preconstruction Managers and Project Teams.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of commercial construction estimating experience.
• Ground-up commercial projects experience preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field preferred but not required.

Level: Junior/ Mid-Level

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will have 2–5 years of commercial construction estimating experience with a General Contractor and a strong understanding of construction costs, subcontractor scopes, drawings, specifications, and project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed conceptual, schematic, design development, and hard-bid estimates for commercial construction projects.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and develop detailed estimates across multiple divisions and scopes of work.
• Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and other bid documents to identify project requirements and potential risks.
• Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals.
• Develop bid packages and ensure complete scope coverage.
• Identify scope gaps, exclusions, inconsistencies, and potential cost impacts.
• Maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
• Assist with value engineering and cost-saving alternatives.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project turnover meetings.
• Work closely with Preconstruction Managers, Project Managers, and operations teams throughout the estimating process.
• Maintain historical cost data and assist with benchmarking for future projects.
• Support preparation of final bid proposals and presentations.
• Track market pricing, material costs, and subcontractor availability.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of commercial construction estimating experience, preferably with a General Contractor.
• Experience estimating ground-up commercial construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, scopes, and building systems.
• Experience performing quantity takeoffs and subcontractor bid leveling.
• Understanding of conceptual estimating, budgeting, and competitive bidding.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
• Proficiency with estimating and construction software such as Bluebeam, Procore
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred but not required with relevant industry experience.
