Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a seasoned environmental consultant to prepare and manage federal, state, and local environmental permit applications in the Washington, DC area. The role supports NEPA documentation, regulatory compliance, and client deliverables, while guiding project teams and mentoring junior staff.

You will advise clients on permitting strategies, collaborate with project managers for scope alignment, and contribute to environmental planning and reporting across multiple projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field.
  • 3–7 years of environmental consulting experience.
  • Experience with environmental permitting and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience supporting NEPA documentation and ESAs.

  • Prepare Environmental Management Plans and related compliance documentation.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and manage federal, state, and local environmental permit applications
  • Assist in the preparation of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation and supporting environmental analyses
  • Advise clients on environmental permitting strategies and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure technical accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project scope, budget, schedule, and client expectations
  • Support the development of technical proposals and client deliverables
  • Prepare Environmental Management Plans and related compliance documentation
  • Support administration and compliance activities related to Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) and Stormwater Management (SWM) programs
  • Mentor junior environmental staff through technical guidance and project collaboration
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field
  • 3–7 years of environmental consulting experience
  • Experience with environmental permitting and regulatory compliance
  • Proven knowledge of Clean Water Act and related regulations
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or Professional Wetland Delineator (PWD) certification preferred
  • ISA Certified Arborist credential preferred
  • Experience supporting NEPA documentation and environmental review processes
  • Experience conducting or supporting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs)
  • Proficiency with GIS software and spatial data analysis tools
