Overview

Beyond New Horizons LLC (BNH) offers a mid‑career Control & Simulation Engineer position supporting TOS II at AEDC in Arnold AFB, TN. The role is part of the Engineering Solutions branch, responsible for supporting US Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts with cutting‑edge technology development.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will develop high‑fidelity training simulators that emulate real‑world facilities and their control systems, integrating PLC ladder logic and physics‑based Simulink models with HMI screens. The role leads projects, mentors junior engineers, and drives high impact simulation development.

Job Duties

• Develop, implement, and calibrate control models using MATLAB/Simulink to emulate and simulate industrial control logic.
• Implement physics‑based models to support ground test facility simulators.
• Architect and convert ladder logic and PLC code into efficient Simulink models.
• Integrate control logic models with physics‑based models of facility processes to create comprehensive system simulators.
• Configure interfaces between Simulink models and HMI screens to provide realistic operator experience.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to gather requirements, define scope, and ensure model accuracy.
• Produce detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and validation results.
• Support testing and validation of simulators to meet performance and training objectives.
• Lead project planning, define technical requirements, and act as primary technical contact for cross‑functional teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster professional growth.
• Develop best practices for model development, documentation, and version control.
• Troubleshoot complex simulation issues and optimize model performance and fidelity.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or related field from an accredited institution.
• Grade 08: Minimum 5 years of professional experience in control systems engineering, simulation, or related discipline.
• Grade 09: Minimum 8 years of professional experience in control systems engineering, simulation, or related discipline.
• Must obtain and maintain security clearance and access to DoD network & computer systems.
• Due to Air Force Security requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Expert‑level proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink, including advanced model‑based design and simulation techniques.
• Hands‑on experience with industrial control systems such as PLCs (GE, Emerson, Allen Bradley, Siemens) and ladder logic.
• Familiarity with GE Proficy Machine Edition.
• Familiarity with HMI/SCADA software such as Proficy HMI and integration with control systems.
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, OPC, Ethernet/IP).
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills for complex technical challenges.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Active Secret Security Clearance.
