Job summary

San José State University seeks a Microfabrication Technician and Facility Support Specialist to maintain the MC2 lab and support teaching and research in microfabrication. The role includes preventive maintenance, equipment repair, and coordinating technical support for BME/CME labs, while ensuring safe, clean work areas and proper documentation.

You will train and supervise lab assistants, manage consumables, and interface with Facilities Development & Operations to obtain project approvals.

Qualifications

Three years of progressively responsible journey‑level or skilled experience in maintenance, repair and operation of scientific or technical equipment; one year in design modifications and fabrication of complex equipment.
Valid driver’s license required; safe driving record and Defensive Driving training.
B.S. with semiconductor manufacturing experience preferred; hands-on experience with microfabrication equipment is a plus.

Responsibilities

Maintain safe and clean equipment stations and work areas.
Plan, manage and perform regular preventive maintenance.
Manage utilization and expenditures, including maintenance and consumables.
Evaluate new projects and non-standard chemicals/materials.
Recruit, train and supervise lab assistants.
Develop, maintain and disseminate documentation (e.g., SOPs).
Coordinate with Facilities Development & Operations for project approvals and completion.
Coordinate processes like omnilock access and package deliveries.
Maintain MC2 lab and associated metrology equipment.
Serve as work lead for equipment technicians overseeing BME/CME and student assistants.
