Job summary

Sensient Technologies is seeking a Microbiology Technician I in Turlock, CA to perform routine and non-routine microbiology testing, from media preparation to sample analysis, ensuring ISO 17025-compliant documentation.

You will maintain inventory, ensure accurate data entry in the LIMS, support continuous improvement, and participate in research projects in a quality-focused laboratory environment.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor7s degree in physical science, microbiology, biology, chemistry, or related field (required).
  • Experience in microbiology laboratory work is preferred.
  • Ability to follow SOPs and perform qualitative and quantitative testing.
  • Good laboratory practices and safe working environment commitment.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and work across shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine microbiology procedures including media prep and PCR testing.
  • Conduct microbiology testing with accuracy and quality per procedures and ISO 17025.
  • Maintain lab operations: inventory, log sheets, calibration, proficiency testing, corrective actions.
  • Prepare media and broth for testing and assist with waste disposal and cleanup.
  • Maintain LIMS knowledge and documentation data entry.
  • Support continuous improvement and participate in research projects.

Job description

As Microbiology Technician I, you'll be responsible for conducting microbiology testing and maintaining documentation of processes according to ISO 17025 requirements. This covers all aspects of testing from media and sample preparation through sample analysis and cleanup. You'll maintain a focus on continuous improvement within the laboratory, and as needed participate in research projects.

What you'll do:
  • Perform routine and non-routine microbiology procedures, including media and sample preparation, sample receiving, sample plating, polymerase chain reaction testing, confirmation assays, and plate reading for a variety of microorganisms.
  • Conduct microbiology testing accurately and efficiently while maintaining a high level of quality and following established laboratory procedures and International Organization for Standardization requirements.
  • Maintain laboratory operations through inventory management, supply tracking and ordering, log sheet completion, equipment calibration and verification, proficiency testing, and corrective action activities.
  • Prepare media and broth for qualitative and quantitative testing, sterilize materials needed for analysis, and assist with laboratory waste disposal and cleanup.
  • Maintain required laboratory information management system knowledge and complete necessary documentation and data entry.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in research projects as assigned by laboratory and quality leadership.
  • Perform other related laboratory tasks as needed.
What you'll bring:
  • A bachelor's degree in physical science, microbiology, biology, chemistry, or a related field is required, or an equivalent combination of education and substantial microbiological laboratory experience.
  • Previous laboratory experience with a strong conceptual foundation in microbiology is preferred.
  • Knowledge of microbiology and the ability to accurately and consistently follow standard operating procedures and strong analytical skills to perform qualitative and quantitative testing and determine microorganism concentrations.
  • Physical dexterity for measuring, pipetting, and transferring samples into plates and tubes.
  • General computer knowledge and familiarity with laboratory information management systems for data entry.
  • Planning and organizational skills to maintain supplies and ensure testing is completed on time.
  • Basic knowledge of good laboratory practices and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Ability to differentiate colors, work various shifts, and contribute effectively as a team member.

The annual salary for this position ranges from $55,000 - 72,000 USD. Pay within the range is based on several factors, which may include, but are not limited to, education, work experience, specialized training, and labor market conditions. In addition to salary, Sensient is proud to offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits program to support the holistic well-being of our employees and their families.
