Job summary

The Laboratory Technician position at MaineHealth independently performs and monitors laboratory testing of patient specimens according to established procedures and regulatory requirements. Qualifications

• Education: Associate’s Degree preferred.
• License/Certifications: Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification preferred.
• Experience: Six months of healthcare experience preferred.
• Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Must be able to travel among company sites.

Responsibilities

• Independently performs and monitors laboratory testing of patient specimens according to established procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Includes receiving specimens in Microbiology, processing routine bacteriology specimens, and appropriately storing and/or distributing other specimens.
• Performs and interprets gram stains and rapid kit testing; recognizes and initiates resolutions for technical/instrumental problems.
• Assumes responsibility for accuracy, quality control and required instrument maintenance; may provide training to laboratory staff or other health care personnel.
