Job summary

Solvita is seeking a Microbiology Lab Assistant to support daily QC for BacT/Alert systems, log specimens, and maintain lab supplies in a fast-paced setting. The role requires attention to detail and adherence to SOPs.

Starting pay is $18.00 per hour with first shift hours Sunday 9:00 am–5:30 pm and Monday–Thursday 7:30 am–4:00 pm. Must be able to meet physical demands and flex schedule as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Daily BacT/Alert quality control maintenance.
• Removal of finalized cultures from the BacT/Alert.
• Verifies Vitek temperature is acceptable.
• Performs basic duties in the microbiology lab: swab inoculation of Thio and TSB; log in specimens; pull discard tubes; daily temperatures/CO2 readings; log in new media, reagents and supplies; weekly eye wash/shower and hood QC; quarterly PM of incubator/refrigerator; troubleshoot temperature monitoring system; weekly cleaning of irradiation/rinsate room; file paperwork; change CO2 tanks; 2nd check CTMS and manual log ins; clean lab spaces; organize/restock supplies; MicroCheck tube discard.
• Performs follow ups with branches as necessary.
• Irradiation Load specimens: log in specimens; label tubes.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Starting rate $18.00 per hour.

The Microbiology Lab Assistant will perform limited microbiology functions. In accordance with standard operating procedures, follows all applicable regulatory standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• 1. Daily BacT/Alert quality control maintenance.
• 2. Removal of finalized cultures from the BacT/Alert.
• 3. Verifies Vitek temperature is acceptable.
• 4. Performs the following basic duties in the microbiology lab:
  • a. Swab inoculation of Thio and TSB
  • b. Log in specimens (electronically and manually)
  • c. Pull discard tubes
  • d. Daily temperatures/CO2 readings
  • e. Log in new media, reagents and supplies
  • f. Performs weekly eye wash/shower maintenance
  • g. Performs weekly hood QC
  • h. Incubator and refrigerator quarterly PM
  • i. Troubleshoots the temperature monitoring system
  • j. Weekly cleaning of irradiation /rinsate room
  • k. File paperwork
  • l. Change CO2 tanks
  • m. 2nd check CTMS and manual log ins
  • n. Clean lab spaces
  • o. Organize and restock lab supplies
  • p. MicroCheck tube discard
• 5. Performs follow ups with branches as necessary.
• 6. Irradiation Load specimens:
  • a. Log in specimens
  • b. Label tubes
• 7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent.
