Job summary

St. Elizabeth Laboratory is seeking a Microbiology Lab Assistant for 1st/2nd shift on a PRN basis. Under supervision, you will prepare and process specimens, perform waived and moderate complexity testing, and support technologists in instrument maintenance and reagent handling.

You will receive training on CLIA requirements, safety procedures, and universal precautions. The role emphasizes accuracy, teamwork, and compassionate patient care in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

• HS graduate or GED.
• CLIA Section 493.1421 requirements.
• Specialized knowledge: computer literacy, human relations and communication skills.
• Up to three months to become proficient.
• FLSA Status: Non-Exempt.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, packages, labels, and sends out specimens as directed.
• Receives specimens from pneumatic tube system and centrifuges as needed.
• Centrifuge blood and urine specimens for analysis.
• Aliquot specimens and prepare for analysis.
• Performs waived and moderately complex testing per CLIA.
• Supports technologist with instruments and reagents.
