Position Overview

The Microbiology Lab Assistant will perform limited microbiology functions in accordance with standard operating procedures and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

1. Perform daily BacT/Alert quality control maintenance.
2. Remove finalized cultures from the BacT/Alert system.
3. Verify Vitek temperature is acceptable.
4. Perform basic microbiology duties such as:

• Swab inoculation of Thio and TSB
• Log in specimens (electronically and manually)
• Pull discard tubes
• Record daily temperatures and CO2 readings
• Log in new media, reagents, and supplies
• Perform weekly eye wash/shower maintenance
• Perform weekly hood QC
• Conduct quarterly PM on incubators and refrigerators
• Troubleshoot temperature monitoring system
• Weekly cleaning of irradiation/rinsate room
• File paperwork
• Change CO2 tanks
• Verify CTMS and manual logs
• Clean lab spaces
• Organize and restock supplies
• Discard MicroCheck tubes

Follow up with branches as necessary.

Irradiation load specimens by logging in and labeling tubes.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
