Job summary

EMSL Analytical, Inc. in Cinnaminson, NJ is seeking a Microbiologist I specializing in Food Microbiology to prepare and analyze samples. The role involves media prep, sample prep, pH adjustments, documentation, and performing quantitative and qualitative analyses including APC, coliforms/E. coli, S.

aureus, yeast and mold, Salmonella, Listeria, and E. coli O157:H7. The position is full time with an 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. schedule; overtime and weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a life science field (Microbiology, Biology, Food Science, or related).
• 1–2 years in a commercial lab is a plus.
• Experience with aseptic technique or culture-based microbiology required.
• Able to work independently and in a team.
• Must be able to distinguish colors for analysis.
• Able to multitask in a fast-paced setting; strong communication and organizational skills.
• Willing to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare media and assist with sample prep and pH adjustments.
• Document preparation and analytical activities.
• Perform quantitative and qualitative analyses for food samples (APC, Coliform/E. coli, S. aureus, Yeast & Mold, Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli O157:H7).
• Conduct confirmation analyses of presumptive isolates and participate in specialty projects.
• Assist with lab organization, inventory, calibrations, cleaning, and maintenance.
• Cross-train in Environmental Microbiology (microscopy) and other areas as needed.

Position Type: Full Time

Salary Range: $19.00 - $19.00 Hourly

EMSL is currently seeking a Microbiologist I specializing in Food Microbiology in Cinnaminson, NJ. This role will encompass preparation and analysis for food microbiology samples.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with media preparation for samples
• Assist with prepping samples and pH adjustments for samples received by clients for analysis
• Documentation of sample preparation and analytical activities
• Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis for food to include: Aerobic Plate Count, Total Coliform / E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Yeast & Mold, Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli O157:H7
• Confirmation analysis of presumptive and suspect isolates, requiring critical and flexible thinking approaches
• Conduct specialty projects as needed such as: Shelf Life Studies, Challenge Studies, and FDA Import Detention Projects
• Assist with laboratory organization including supply inventory, calibrations, cleaning and maintenance of lab equipment
• Will be cross trained in Environmental Microbiology (microscopy) and must be willing to cross train in additional areas as needed

QualificationsRequirements

• Bachelor's Degree preferably in Microbiology, Biology, Food Science, or other Life Science discipline
• One to Two years previous commercial lab experience is a plus
• Experience with aseptic technique, food microbiology, or other culture-based microbiology lab experience required
• Ability to able to work independently and with a team
• Candidate must be able to distinguish colors in order to perform analysis
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced setting, multi-task, and prioritize assignments
• Must have good communication, computer, typing and organizational skills
• Must be willing to work over-time and weekends, as needed

Available Shift

Position is full time, Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
