Job Summary: The Nurse Manager II is responsible for creating and maintaining a healthy work environment that supports professional nursing practice, fosters teamwork, and drives positive patient and staff outcomes. This role involves overseeing all nursing and unit-based personnel, ensuring safe and effective patient care, and aligning resources with departmental and organizational goals. The Nurse Manager will plan, implement, evaluate, and monitor policies, budgets, quality improvement initiatives, and educational programs. The role also involves providing direct bedside care as necessary for the age-specific patient population.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Operations Management: Directs the delivery of patient care within budget, staffing, and regulatory guidelines, utilizing evidence-based practice.

Professional Practice Environment:

Engages staff in setting departmental goals and objectives aligned with the strategic plan.

Fosters a supportive work environment that promotes evidence-based nursing practices, research, and professional development.

Supports shared decision-making and shared governance to ensure staff input in decisions that impact their practice and environment.

Staff Development:

Facilitates the growth of clinical and leadership expertise through role modeling, coaching, and mentoring.

Ensures staff competency in alignment with practice standards and patient population requirements.

Communicates updated policies, procedures, and standards to staff in a timely manner.

Quality Improvement & Evidence-based Practice:

Identifies, plans, and evaluates performance improvement opportunities to enhance nursing practice.

Uses data and evidence-based research to make improvements in patient care delivery, incorporating national benchmarks and regulatory standards (e.g., CMS, Joint Commission, IHI, NQF).

Applies change management principles to implement best practices across the team.

Direct Patient Care: Provides direct bedside nursing care when required, ensuring age-specific and developmentally appropriate care for the patient population within the manager’s area of responsibility.
