Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s Advanced Solutions Team conceives original ideas for new products, develops these ideas into product solutions, and introduces them into practice. The Advanced Solutions Team is responsible for product concept development and qualification from market definition through transfer to a receiving product development engineering team or manufacturing site; conduct testing on new and modified design concepts; direct and support detailed design, proof of concept prototype fabrication, and verification testing. The Advanced Solutions Team provides required product documentation including, but not limited to, 3D solid models, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches, and/or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate proof-of-concept fabrication. Typical fields of expertise include materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

1. Develop engineering group to support the greater team’s strategy and implement plans.
2. Enable design team as fully as possible by providing mentorship for internal team challenges and to remove roadblocks for external team challenges.
3. Provide measurable impact on operating efficiencies and organizational objectives.
4. Develop and administer schedules and performance requirements.
5. Assess risk and compliance within the projects of the team.
6. Manage a diverse and geographically spread group of design engineers who must exercise latitude and independence in their assignments.
7. Provide leadership on resolving key issues that impact the Advanced Solutions Team.
8. Work on issues of varying scope where analysis of the situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends, technical, and manufacturing capabilities.
9. Determine best course of action to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems.
10. Adapt/make departures from traditional approaches to enhance performance and to maximize speed to market.
11. Frequently interact with multiple organizational levels.
12. Gain cooperation of others beyond direct reports including System Architecture, Advanced Development, Advanced Manufacturing, Strategy, and Product Management.
13. Analyze and plan work force utilization and workflow for maximum efficiency.
14. Plan and execute special projects to improve function and capability.
15. Establish and utilize technical network with TE.
16. Interact with customers and suppliers.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering or related field.
2. 10 years or more of product development engineering experience.
3. 3 years or more of engineering management experience.
4. Engineering experience in connector and cable assembly industry preferred, especially high speed I/O connectors, high speed board to board connectors, internal and external cable assemblies.
5. Participation in full product development cycle from establishing customer requirements to releasing qualified design to production.
6. Knowledge in 3D CAD & CAE applications, and geometric dimensions & tolerances.
7. Experience with Creo, SpaceClaim, Ansys Mechanical a plus.
8. Detailed understanding of manufacturing processes including stamping, molding, plating, and assembly.
9. Experience in design for manufacturability to address customer requirements including mechanical, environmental, electrical, and cost.
10. Knowledge of basic principles of signal integrity including typical performance metrics such as characteristic impedance, insertion loss, return loss, near end cross talk, & far end cross talk a plus.
11. Strong interpersonal communication and knowledge of roles of the cross functional team.
12. Deep knowledge in area of leadership and accountability.
13. Ability to work in a global environment and availability to collaborate globally in the mornings and evenings.

COMPENSATION

• Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $162,000 – $203,000 (subject to change dependent on physical location).

• Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.

• Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
