Job summary

The Fountain Group is seeking an Optical Metrology and Machine Vision Engineer for a prominent client in Corning, NY. This 100% onsite, W2 contract role spans advanced measurement systems, image processing, and ML model deployment to support manufacturing and quality control.

Responsibilities include developing optical metrology solutions, implementing vision algorithms, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate systems into operations. Travel 10–30% may be required.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with optical systems, imaging hardware, and measurement instruments.
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or C# for data manipulation and system integration.
• Knowledge of machine vision algorithms (blob analysis, edge detection, morphology, feature extraction, classification).
• Experience with machine learning techniques, including training CNNs and traditional methods.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement advanced measurement systems using optical metrology and machine vision for inspection and manufacturing.
• Design, build, and test systems; develop image processing and metrology algorithms.
• Train and deploy ML models to improve measurement performance.
• Collaborate with Development, Quality, IT, and Operations to integrate systems into workflows.
• Transfer tech from development to production-ready solutions.
• Create and update system specifications, procedures, and manuals.
• Troubleshoot and optimize systems remotely and onsite using data analysis.

Pay Range: $70 - 100/hr depending on experience
W2 Contract: 1 year with possible extension and/or conversion
100% onsite in Corning, NY with 10-30% domestic travel
Job Description:

• Responsible for developing and implementing advanced measurement systems that utilize optical metrology and machine vision technologies to support product inspection, quality control, and manufacturing operations.
• Design, build, and test measurement systems incorporating optical metrology and machine vision techniques. Develop and implement image processing algorithms for feature extraction, classification, and metrology.
• Train and deploy machine learning models to enhance measurement system performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Development, Quality, IT, Operations) to define requirements and integrate systems into manufacturing workflows.
• Transfer technology from early-stage development to production-ready solutions.
• Create and update documentation, including system specifications, operating procedures, and software manuals.
• Troubleshoot and optimize measurement systems, both remotely and onsite, using data analysis and performance metrics.

Qualifications:

• Hands-on experience with optical systems, imaging hardware, and measurement instruments.
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or C# for data manipulation and system integration.
• Knowledge of machine vision algorithms (blob analysis, edge detection, morphology, feature extraction, classification, etc.).
• Experience with machine learning techniques, including training CNNs and utilizing traditional methods.
• Data retrieval, plotting, and analysis using tools like Excel, MATLAB, or Python.
• Familiarity with software development tools such as Halcon, OpenCV, or LabVIEW.
• Strong communication and presentation skills (MS Office programs).
