Job summary

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation is seeking a Meter Technician II to install and service meters and regulators, conduct safety checks, and support compliance tasks. You will respond to gas odor and leak calls, maintain detection equipment, and collaborate with customer service on billing inquiries.

Qualified candidates have a high school diploma and experience with meters, regulators, and safety codes; strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of NFPA 54 and related codes.
  • Troubleshooting, sizing, and functioning of regulators and meters.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, manuals, and diagrams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Installs meters and regulators for customers.
  • Performs meter changes and verifies service safety.
  • Responds to gas odor and gas leak reports.
  • Maintains gas detection equipment and monitors safety codes.
  • Works with customer service to resolve billing issues and complaints.
  • Supports audits and compliance tasks under supervision.

Job description

Position: Meter Technician II

Location: Beaver Run, MD

What you'll be working on:
  • Installs new meters and regulators.
  • Performs meter changes for customers.
  • Responds to and investigates gas odor complaints and gas leaks.
  • Utilizes and maintains gas detection equipment.
  • Verifies customer equipment is safe and complies to applicable codes.
  • Processes disconnection of service for non-payment.
  • Works with customer service to investigate high and/or low bill complaints.
  • Assists Gas Operations Supervisor and Compliance Manager with Public Service Commission audits.
  • Assists with completing compliance related requirements timely utilizing work order management system.
  • Assists with material procurement for the department.
Who you are:
  • Knowledge of NFPA 54 (National Association of Fire Prevention).
  • Knowledge of regulator and meter troubleshooting, sizing and function.
  • Skills Skilled in the safe operation of hand tools, working with diagnostic tools. Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Abilities Ability to read engineering drawings, manuals, code and parts diagrams.
  • Ability to communicate with various levels of employees and customers.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
Working Conditions:
  • Outside, customer premises and minimal office time
  • Working around potentially flammable substances
  • Able to lift 20 to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Adverse weather conditions and dogs
  • On-call rotation to cover 24 hour response for gas leaks

Qualifications

Education: High School (required)

Experience: 2 years: year mechanical/industrial experience, utility experience preferred (preferred)
