The Town of Northlake, TX is seeking a Water Meter Technician to perform essential tasks related to the installation and maintenance of water meters. This hands-on position requires a valid Texas Driver's License and the ability to work effectively in varying weather conditions. POSITION FUNCTION SUMMARY : ? Performs a variety of technical and manual labor tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, and repair of water meters. Routinely operating small tools, light motorized equipment associated with these operations during the hours of 7 : 00 am to 3 : 00 pm. Monday through Friday, working in all weather extremes or working overtime as needed in all hours of the day or night.

Perform job related tasks as dictated by work orders or supervisors.
Validates water meter readings, turns on / off water services, delivers notification tags for new or discontinued service, and locks water service for delinquent accounts.
Assist other departments as directed by supervisor.
Read and understand written job instructions and plans.
Records field activity performed at job site on work order system utilizing mobile unit / tablet. Confirms that all necessary information is included in the work order including accurate meter, register and smart point information.
Complete work orders and other necessary paperwork on the completion of assigned tasks or maintenance of equipment.
Hear clearly and interpret hand signals when operating equipment.
Inspects, operates, and maintains assigned Town vehicles, equipment, tools and machinery in a safe and appropriate manner.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS : To perform this position successfully, an individual(s) must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.
Knowledge :
Materials, methods, practices, tools, and equipment used in meter installation and maintenance operations (valves, meters, radio endpoints, meter boxes, and lids).
Basic operational characteristics, services, and activities of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) systems.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Water standards and detail drawings.
Applicable federal, state, and local law, applicable to public works and public utilities functions
Analyze maintenance issues; evaluate alternative solutions to develop sound conclusions for a course of action or recommendation.
Understand and apply local, state and federal law for public works and utilities services.
Skills :
Exercises sound, independent judgment within general policy guidelines.

Effective communication.
Operation of light equipment
Must be able to operate a Town vehicle safely, as well as operate and maintain a variety of small construction equipment, including but not limited to backhoe, loader, and dump truck.
Complete work orders using correct English (i.e. grammar, punctuation, spelling and clarity)
Abilities :
Ability to observe and interpret situations.
Ability to analyze and solve maintenance problems.
Ability to use math and mathematical reasoning.
Ability to work with constant interruptions and interact with officials and the public.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING : T he preferred way to obtain the minimum knowledge, SKILLS, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below. The Town reserves the right to allow substitutions in the event that a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another.

Valid TCEQ "D" Water license Within 12 Months.
