Job summary

Core & Main’s Metering team seeks a Meter Specialist to serve as the go-to expert on metering systems, including meters, endpoints, network infrastructure, and software platforms enabling real-time data collection and system efficiency.

This hands-on role blends office-based support with fieldwork, installing and troubleshooting metering technologies while collaborating with utilities to deliver end-to-end solutions and drive customer value.

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical expert for metering solutions, supporting both customers and internal sales teams with product knowledge, system design, and application guidance
• Partner with utilities and contractors to deliver end‑to‑end metering solutions, including meters, AMI/AMR systems, and data management software
• Support customers in troubleshooting system issues, optimizing performance, and implementing new technologies in the field
• Lead product demonstrations, training sessions, and presentations for customers, including operations teams and leadership stakeholders
• Collaborate with sales teams to drive a consultative, solution‑based sales approach focused on long‑term customer value
• Prospect and develop new business opportunities while expanding relationships with existing accounts
• Influence project specifications and help position Core & Main as a trusted partner in infrastructure modernization efforts
• Serve as the liaison between customers and internal teams, including engineering, vendors, and program management
• Assist with system installations, configurations, and commissioning of metering and data technologies
• Stay current on industry trends, including smart water technologies, data automation, and utility infrastructure advancements

Join Core & Main’s Metering team and play a key role in helping utilities modernize how they measure, manage, and optimize water and energy usage. This role blends technical expertise, customer engagement, and solution-based sales to support municipalities, contractors, and utility providers with advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), automated meter reading (AMR), and data-driven technologies.

As a Meter Specialist, you will serve as the go-to expert on metering systems, including meters, endpoints, network infrastructure, and software platforms that enable real-time data collection, leak detection, usage monitoring, and system efficiency. You will partner closely with customers to design and implement solutions that improve operational visibility and long‑term infrastructure performance.

This is a hands‑on role that combines office-based support with fieldwork, including system troubleshooting, product installation support, and customer training.

What You Bring

• 2–3+ years of experience in metering, utilities, technical sales, or related infrastructure technology
• Working knowledge of water, wastewater, gas, or electric utility systems preferred
• Experience with AMI, AMR, or smart metering technologies is a strong plus
• Ability to translate technical concepts into practical, customer‑focused solutions
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both field‑level users and executive stakeholders
• Willingness to work in both office and field environments
