Job summary

The City of Topeka’s Utilities Department is seeking an entry-level Utility System Worker I for Meter Services. This role reads water meters, tests, repairs and replaces meters as required, with on-the-job training and opportunities for advancement.

The ideal candidate thrives in a mobile work environment, has basic knowledge of computerized meter reading equipment, and is willing to learn. A high school diploma is required, with CPR/First Aid and Confined Space certifications within one year of

Qualifications

• High School diploma or its equivalent is required.
• On-the-job training is available.
• Certification in First aid / CPR and Confined space within one year of promotion.

Responsibilities

• Read and record water meter readings and assist with testing, repairing and replacing meters.
• Turn service on/off as requested and help customers track high consumption issues.
• Assist in delinquency control tasks including turning water off and restoring service after payment.
