About the Role

The Meter Reader reports to the Meter Services Supervisor and plays a key role in reading and inspecting gas, electric, and water meters. This position requires extensive walking outdoors, excellent time management, and flexibility in daily routines.

Responsibilities

1. Read meters on a daily or scheduled basis, typically at customer locations for billing.
2. Complete assigned duties within designated timeframes, assign sequence numbers, and adjust routes as needed.
3. Inspect meters and report damages or malfunctions.
4. Evaluate unsafe conditions and clean out meter boxes.
5. Use electric, gas, and water meter reading devices, hand tools, and printed materials.
6. Assist in training new meter readers.
7. Walk and stand for much of the workday, sometimes up to 20 miles daily in various weather conditions.
8. Communicate with customers, handle complaints appropriately, and provide general information about meter services.
9. Interact professionally with customers, including handling difficult situations.
10. Adhere to drug/alcohol testing requirements.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

About You

Must Haves:

• None; must be 18+ and possess a valid driver’s license.
• No experience necessary; training provided.

Nice to Have:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of outdoor meter reading experience or similar outdoor work, with consistent employment for 6+ months.
