Job summary

KVLY-TV/Gray Media is seeking a meteorologist to join our award-winning First Alert Weather Team. You will collaborate with the Chief Meteorologist, news managers and producers to deliver accurate forecasts for newscasts, streaming updates and digital content.

You will analyze raw data, create conversational weather presentations for broadcast and social media, identify the weather story of the day and track severe weather to keep our viewing area safe and informed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years as a broadcast meteorologist.
• Operational radar knowledge and WSI MAX system experience.
• Familiar with Baron Lynx system.
• BS/BA in Meteorology/Atmospheric Science or equivalent.
• Flexible scheduling for weather events and valid driver's license.

Job Summary/Description:

KVLY is looking for a meteorologist to join our award-winning First Alert Weather Team. This meteorologist will work closely with the Chief Meteorologist, news managers, and producers to provide comprehensive weather coverage for our newscasts, streaming updates, digital and social content, and severe weather coverage.

Duties/Responsible will include (but not limited to):

• Analyze raw scientific data, models, and other available and relevant information to create an accurate weather forecast for our viewing area
• Create a compelling, conversational presentation of the weather forecast for broadcast, streaming, digital, and social media audiences
• Identify and communicate the "weather story of the day" to a cross-platform audience
• Accurately forecast and track severe weather

Qualifications/Requirements:

• At least 2 years of experience as a broadcast meteorologist preferred
• Operational radar knowledge and excellent command of the WSI MAX system preferred
• Familiar with the Baron Lynx system
• BS/BA in Meteorology/Atmospheric Science/Communications/Journalism or equivalent background. Seals of the National Weather Association and/or American Meteorological Society are preferred, but not necessary.
• Flexibility with respect to scheduling and/or assigned work shifts, especially considering the unpredictable nature of weather events
• Proficiency in producing written weather content for our digital platforms
• A clean driving record, the ability to drive in various weather conditions, and a valid driver's license are requirements for this position.
