Job summary

Lynker seeks a Meteorologist and Data Scientist Developer to support a long-term contract with the Weather Prediction Center (NOAA). You will develop and apply AI/ML methods to improve forecaster tools, verify outputs, and build IDSS capabilities in collaboration with NOAA partners.

You will create web-based forecasting tools using GIS, Python, and PHP, train model pipelines, and transition successful prototypes into operations.

Qualifications

• Degree with 2+ years in atmospheric science, geophysics, engineering, CS, or math.
• Experience applying AI/ML to environmental or meteorological datasets.
• Experience with software development in a team environment.
• Proficiency with Python and Unix/Linux.
• Knowledge of deterministic and ensemble prediction data sets and applications to hazardous weather.
• Understanding of weather forecasting from short to medium range.
• Strong written and oral communication; able to present results.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with NCEP, NWS field offices, academia and partners to develop forecast tools for hazardous weather.
• Develop tools to determine hazard information using meteorological expertise.
• Contribute to scientific publications and conferences as appropriate.
• Transition forecaster tools into NOAA operations.
• Develop web applications using GIS, Python, and PHP.
• Create training materials to operationalize new tools.
• Design and train ML models to identify precursors to hazardous events.
• Implement AI-based anomaly detection to identify errors in forecast data.
