Job Description

Position Title : METCO After-School Aide

Primary Purpose

The METCO After-School Aide (ASA) is part of the METCO academic and enrichment team and provides supervisory, enrichment, and transportation support and guidance to students. The METCO ASA is also responsible for other after-school duties as assigned by the K-8 METCO Academic and Enrichment Coordinator, METCO Director, and School Principal.

Contractual Relationship

The METCO After-School Aide (ASA) is employed part-time by the district and is compensated in accordance with hourly/stipend rates established by the School Committee and the METCO Program.

Organizational Relationship

The METCO After-School Aide (ASA) reports to the METCO Director, the K-8 METCO Academic and Enrichment Coordinator, and School Principal.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Bus Monitor on the afternoon late-bus routes three days per week from Lincoln to Boston. Free transportation is provided back to Lincoln. The assigned afternoons/days are: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  • Provides guidance and redirection to students during afternoon bus routes.
  • Maintains discipline notes and records on afternoon bus routes.
  • Follows proper communication and safety protocols, as outlined by the METCO Director, during and after bus routes, as needed.
  • Supervises students after-school, starting immediately at afternoon dismissal. Assists the K-8 Academic and Enrichment Coordinator with monitoring and logistics.
  • Supports the K-8 METCO Academic and Enrichment Coordinator with other after-school enrichment, programming, duties, obligations, and tasks as allowed without sacrificing comprehensive student supervision.
  • Assists with and performs other tasks as assigned by the METCO Director and the K-8 METCO Academic and Enrichment Coordinator.
  • Follows all district policies and protocols.
  • Later in the school year, we may start an additional afternoon late-bus day on one or two Monday afternoons per month.

Required Qualifications

1. High school diploma.

2. Ability to communicate clearly, maintain confidentiality, flexibility and dependability.

3. Strong interpersonal skills and work habits.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience working with children and young adolescents.

2. Experience working in a school setting.

3. College/university coursework.
