Job summary

Ring Inc in Memphis, TN seeks a hands-on Materials Testing & Metallurgy Technician to perform metallurgical sample preparation and mechanical testing of steel, welds, castings, and components.

The role supports customer requests and product development initiatives, manages receiving inspection of raw materials, and conducts hardness, fatigue, tensile, and magnetic particle testing. Strong documentation and teamwork are required.

Qualifications

• Technical College or Associate degree.
• Must have basic knowledge of metallurgical sample preparation and testing procedures.
• Experience using general and specialized lab equipment.
• Knowledge of hardness testing, optical microscopy, and chemical analysis.
• Detail oriented with ability to work under supervision.
• Experience in a laboratory environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Carry out metallurgy lab projects to support customer requests.
• Manage lab studies to support product development initiatives.
• Oversee receiving inspection for raw materials (steel, castings).
• Investigate customer returns, welds, broken components.
• Maintain accurate lab records and write basic reports.
• Support rail welding trials and new product development initiatives.
• Coordinate calibration and maintenance of lab equipment.
• Work in cross-functional teams and communicate effectively.
