Job summary

The Doe Run Company is seeking a Metallurgist to provide technical support for operations to maximize metal recovery, mentored by a Senior Metallurgist. The position is based at our Viburnum, MO Explorations/R&D division.

The role emphasizes data analytics, process optimization, and collaboration with production staff to troubleshoot issues and drive continuous improvement. Strong knowledge of metallurgical processes is needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or related field.
  • Strong data analytics and MS Office proficiency.
  • Knowledge of minerals processing unit operations preferred (SEMO) or extractive (Leaching, SX/EW, precipitation).
  • Driver's license may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and optimize process performance, including sampling procedures, on-stream analysis, size reduction, and reagent utilization.
  • Coordinate collection, analysis, and distribution of technical data.
  • Communicate processes, procedures, conditions, and status to departmental employees and other stakeholders.
  • In collaboration with production staff, troubleshoot issues related to processing and provide technical support.
  • Lead or participate in projects and complete reports as required.
  • Complete tasks in a safe and environmentally compliant manner by following EHS policies and best practices; support and assist peers in working safely; report unsafe acts or conditions; provide feedback for continuous improvement in EHS performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Doe Run Company is currently seeking a Metallurgist to provide technical support for operations to maximize metal recovery while being mentored and guided by a Senior Metallurgist. The position is located at our Exploration/R&D division in Viburnum, MO.

This position is posted at the Metallurgist I level; however, candidates with qualifications and experience exceeding the requirements may be considered for a higher-level Metallurgist position.

Education & Experience:

  • 1 year of experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Proficient in computer skills and data analytics, including with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Basic understanding of minerals processing unit operations, i.e. Crushing, grinding, flotation, filtration, and tailings disposal preferred (SEMO) or extractive i.e. Leaching, SX/EW, precipitation.

A basic understanding of metallurgical pyro and hydro processes is preferred.

  • Proficient understanding of the material, mechanical, and energy balances (BRRD).

A basic understanding of the environmental regulatory requirements is preferred.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly uses a computer and phone. Frequently uses hand tools (powered and non-powered). Occasionally uses personnel carriers and loading/hauling equipment. Rarely uses cutting/welding equipment.
  • SEMO: Regularly required to work in outdoor weather conditions, wear PPE including but not limited to a respirator, eye protection, hearing protection, and foot protection. Occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. Occasionally required to work in confined spaces, wet, humid conditions (non-weather), vibration, work at heights of 4’ or more with fall protection, and work with fall protection. Exposed to loud noise. BRRD: Regularly required to work in outdoor weather conditions, wear PPE including but not limited to a respirator, eye protection, hearing protection, and foot protection. Occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. Requires clarity of vision at 20 feet or more, 20 inches or less, three-dimensional vision-ability to judge distance and space relationships, precise hand-eye coordination, ability to identify and distinguish colors. Requires concentrated attention.
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds. Rarely required to lift up to 75 pounds.
