Job summary

The Doe Run Company is seeking an Exploration Geologist to apply field and software techniques and geostatistical modeling to support mineral discovery and development up to the advanced drill/evaluation stage. The role is based in Viburnum, MO, within the Exploration division.

Posting is at Exploration Geologist II level, with consideration for higher levels for qualified candidates; strong modeling experience and database knowledge preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years geological experience, may consider graduate experience.
  • AcQuire Database or similar drilling database knowledge preferred.
  • Vulcan or similar geological modeling experience preferred.
  • Must maintain valid, current driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Model geology in assigned project areas using 3D modeling software.
  • Generate exploration targets for surface diamond drilling.
  • Log project area holes.
  • Lead surface drilling program (rotary and diamond drilling) in various phases.
  • Utilize geological software to analyze data and write field reports.
  • Assist with annual resource calculation and audits; compile data for resource estimates.
  • Complete tasks safely and in compliance with EHS policies.

The Doe Run Company is currently seeking an Exploration Geologist to use field and software techniques and geostatistical modeling in order to assist in the discovery and development of mineral exploration up to and including the advanced drill/evaluation stage. This position is located at our Exploration division in Viburnum, MO.

This position is posted at the Exploration Geologist II level; however, candidates with qualifications and experience exceeding the requirements may be considered for a higher-level Exploration Geologist position.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of geological experience, may consider graduate experience.

  • Vulcan or similar geological modeling experience preferred.
  • Must maintain valid, current driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient computer skills, specifically spreadsheets and databases, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Proficient knowledge of geological mineralization, economic geology, and geological interpretation.
  • Proficient in basic geological skills of core logging and data analytics.
  • High attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Proficient knowledge of writing/creating reports.
  • Excellent analysis, observation, and decision-making skills.
  • Basic knowledge of safety, occupational hazards, and environmental compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Model geology in assigned project areas using 3D modeling software. Generate exploration targets for surface diamond drilling. Log project area holes.
  • Lead surface drilling program (rotary and diamond drilling) in the various phases: hole spotting, road and site prep, rotary drilling, diamond drilling, and pipe pulling/reclamation.
  • Utilize various geological software programs in order to analyze data and write detailed, accurate, concise, and technical field reports in assigned project areas.
  • Assist with the annual resource calculation process and the audits. Resource map creation followed by auditing resource maps and both the block and pillar resource databases, assembling data for annual resource estimate calculations. Compile data for block resource database reconciliation and assemble final data.
  • Complete tasks in a safe and environmentally compliant manner by following EHS (environmental, health, and safety) policies, procedures, and best practices; support and assist peers in working in a safe, compliant manner; report unsafe acts or conditions, incidents, and deviations; and provide feedback to support continuous improvement in EHS performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Environmental Conditions, Physical & Lifting Requirements:

  • Regularly required to use a computer/tablet, occasionally required to use non-powered hand tools, and drive a personnel carrier. Rarely uses a phone/radio and uses loading equipment.
  • Frequently works in an office environment. Rarely exposed to wet, humid conditions, and rarely works in outdoor weather conditions. Rarely exposed to loud noise levels. Rarely exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Regularly required to use repetitive hand, wrist, and finger movements; Frequently required to grasp, sit, and stand; Occasionally required to talk, hear, walk, push, and reach. Rarely required to drive, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, or balance; Requires clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision.
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
