Job summary

ASARCO LLC in Hayden, AZ is seeking a Metallurgical Lab Technician to support the Metallurgical Engineering staff with investigatory and daily testing, monitor concentrator mass consumables inventory, and maintain process monitoring equipment.

You will prepare samples, operate on-stream X-ray analyzers, maintain sampling systems, manage reagents and flocculent systems, and assist with safety and MSHA requirements.

Qualifications

  • Must have High School Diploma or GED.
  • Some college or technical school education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples and complete basic sample analysis procedures.
  • Maintain the x-ray on stream analyzers including basic electrical/mechanical maintenance and calibration.
  • Maintain on-stream sampling systems including piping and vacuum pump systems.
  • Maintain control x-ray spare parts inventory.
  • Monitor and prepare concentrator reagents for daily usage.
  • Monitor and maintain thickener flocculent systems.
  • Monitor and maintain Ray Complex anti-scaling addition systems.
  • Perform weekly and monthly concentrator mass consumables inventory; interface with purchasing for deliveries.
  • Test, analyze and report on proposed procedural and reagent changes by standard laboratory tests.
  • Perform daily screen analyses and test concentrator performance by standard laboratory tests.
  • Maintain proper reagent identification per MSHA standards.
  • Operate a wide range of mineral processing equipment and analytical devices.
  • Follow multiple directives accurately and maintain time priorities.
  • Must have MS Office skills.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Job description

To support the Metallurgical Engineering staff to perform investigatory and daily testing, monitor the concentrator mass consumables inventory, and maintain process monitoring equipment in the concentrator.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ability to prepare samples and complete basic sample analysis procedures following proper guidelines.
  • Maintain the x-ray on stream analyzers to include basic electrical maintenance, mechanical maintenance, as well as system sampling and calibration.
  • Maintain the on-stream sampling systems to include piping and vacuum pump system.
  • Maintain the control x-ray spare parts inventory.
  • Monitor and prepare Concentrator reagents for daily usage.
  • Monitor and maintain thickener flocculent systems.
  • Monitor and maintain the Ray Complex anti-scaling addition systems.
  • Perform weekly and monthly Concentrator mass consumables inventory, order required inventory. Interface with purchasing to ensure proper delivery and assist in delivery unloading upon delivery.
  • Test, analyze and report on proposed procedural and reagent changes by standard laboratory tests.
  • Perform daily screen analyses
  • Test, analyze and report on Concentrator performance by standard laboratory test.
  • Maintain proper reagent identification according to MSHA standards.
  • Use a wide range of laboratory crushing, grinding, screening, flotation, etc., mineral processing equipment, as well as the analytical devices used to measure results
  • Must be able to take multiple directives and follow instructions with precision.
  • Must have MS Office computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Must be able to manage time effectively and set priorities.
  • Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY
  • The job requires training or instruction in Environmental Awareness.
  • This job requires training or instruction in Safety & Health awareness includin g completion of the appropriate OSHA/MSHA training.
