Job summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. invites an Engineering Intern to join our Metallurgical/Materials team in Jonesborough, TN. The role provides hands-on experience with metals testing, sample preparation, and data analysis within a manufacturing environment.

You will assist with hardness and tensile tests, participate in material characterization, and help maintain testing records while learning process improvement and safety practices in a nuclear-related setting.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Basic understanding of metals, alloys, material behavior, and testing methods.
• Familiarity with laboratory equipment and safe testing practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist with metallurgical testing such as hardness and tensile tests.
• Prepare samples and examine using micrometers, microscopes, and polishing tools.
• Collect and analyze data to evaluate material performance and quality trends.
• Support documentation, work instructions, and process records.
