Job summary

NSL Metallurgical in Cleveland, OH is seeking a Metallurgical Technician to prepare and interpret metallurgical samples. You will perform sample preparation, hardness tests, and microstructural analysis for ferrous and nonferrous materials, often using a reflected light microscope and image analysis software.

Responsibilities include SEM/EDS operation, data entry into the LIMS database, and collaboration with customers to deliver world-class service.

Qualifications

An associate’s degree in chemistry, materials science, metallurgy or related field.
2–5 years in a metallurgical laboratory.
Experience in a commercial testing lab.
Technical report writing experience.
Experience working with customers to complete evaluation.
Knowledge of chemistry and metallurgy.
Follows ASTM/ISO methods and procedures (E3, E8, E18, E112, E384, E407; ISO 17025).
Willingness to learn new tasks and software.
Strong attention to detail; able to multi-task.
Aerospace & military specification knowledge.

Responsibilities

Metallurgical sample preparation including cutting, mounting, grinding, polishing and etching.
Interpretation of ferrous and nonferrous microstructures using microscopy and image analysis.
Perform hardness testing (Rockwell, microhardness).
Operate SEM/EDS as needed and input results into LIMS.
Assist with customer service and test pricing.
Adhere to safety standards and quality assurance.
