Job summary

Siemens Energy in Charlotte, NC seeks a Combustion Lab Technician to support quality assurance for combustion components used in gas turbines. The role focuses on metallurgical sample prep, microscopy of thermal spray coatings, hardness and mechanical testing, and documentation to uphold quality standards.

You will work with engineers, production, and quality teams, maintaining lab safety and accurate records while calibrating equipment and ensuring procedures meet specifications.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or higher in a technical field or equivalent experience.
• 3–5 years in metallurgical/materials testing or quality lab.
• Experience with microscopy and thermal spray coatings preferred.
• Ability to read technical drawings and testing procedures.
• Experience documenting results in technical reports.

Responsibilities

• Prepare metallurgical samples via sectioning, mounting, polishing for microscopic evaluation.
• Analyze thermal spray coatings by microscopy to verify porosity, cracks and unmelts per specs.
• Conduct hardness and mechanical testing; support materials characterization.
• Operate and calibrate lab equipment: microscopes, polishing tools, saws, hardness testers.
• Document and communicate results in technical reports with engineering and quality teams.
• Maintain safety and quality procedures; support routine lab operations.
