Teck Alaska Incorporated is recruiting for a Metallurgical Engineering Co-op at Red Dog Operations, AK. The position follows a 4 weeks on-site / 2 weeks off-site rotation, with expected start May 2027, reporting to the Senior Metallurgist.

The role involves assisting metallurgical engineers, sample prep in the Assay Lab, sketching lab work and pilot tests, with on-site accommodations and meals provided as part of the fly-in program.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering program.
  • Proficient in MS Office and Excel.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Willingness to work in a mill environment and wear respirators.

Responsibilities

  • Assist metallurgical engineers with their projects.
  • Sample preparation in the Bucking Room of the Assay Lab.
  • Conduct sludge testing and assist with the operation of the Water Treatment Plants.
  • Collect water samples.
  • Conduct flotation laboratory test work.
  • Conduct small pilot plant tests.
  • Calibrating moisture and sizing equipment.
  • Small project test work.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Role Overview

Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Metallurgical Engineering Co-op.

Rotation schedule will be 4 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site, expected start May 2027.

Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the metallurgical engineers with their projects
  • Sample preparation in the Bucking Room of the Assay Lab
  • Conduct sludge testing and assist with the operation of the Water Treatment Plants

  • Conduct small pilot plant tests

Qualifications
  • Current college or university student working towards a degree in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering
  • Must be proficient in MS Office 2010 and Excel
  • Must have good organization and observation skills
  • Must have strong communication skills
  • Prior plant and laboratory experience would be an asset
  • Respirator use is required, as part of the job is conducted in the mill with significant physical activity

Schedule & Travel: Paid fly-in, fly-out travel with a four-weeks on / two-weeks off (4x2) rotational schedule, including on-site accommodations & meals.
