Job summary

Ellwood National Steel is seeking a Metullurgical/Materials Science professional to support the primary melting operation from scrap selection through shipment. You will investigate root causes of material issues, participate in alloy development, and guide training for staff while overseeing trials and testing activities.

Requirements include a BS in Metallurgical or Materials Science or equivalent experience, plus steelmaking experience when possible.

Qualifications

  • BS in Metallurgical or Materials Science (or commensurate level of related experience and education).
  • Experience in a steelmaking environment preferred.
  • Strong organizational and data analysis skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for all phases of the primary melting operation from scrap selection to shipment of product.
  • Investigate root cause and disposition non-conforming material and customer claims.
  • Participate in process development/improvement for new and current alloys.
  • Provide training and guidance for hourly and salaried employees.
  • Develop and oversee trials and evaluate technical specifications and economic factors.
  • Conduct or supervise tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure quality.
  • Design and direct testing or control of processing procedures.
  • Analyze product failure data and lab results to determine causes and solutions.

Job description

ENS operates a fully integrated steelmaking process, including a scrap yard, electric arc furnace, ladle furnace, vacuum tank degasser, vacuum oxygen decarburization unit, teeming bay, annealing furnaces, and shipping operations. You'll play a key role in driving improvements across this complex and dynamic operation.

What you'll do: Provide technical support for all phases of the primary melting operation from scrap selection to shipment of product.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Investigate root cause and disposition non-conforming material and customer claims
  • Participate in process development/improvement for new and currently produced alloys
  • Provide training and guidance for hourly and salaried employees
  • Develop and oversee trials
  • Evaluate technical specifications and economic factors relating to process or product design objectives
  • Conduct or supervise test on raw materials or finished products to ensure their quality
  • Design and direct the testing or control of processing procedures
  • Analyze product failure data and laboratory test results to determine cause of problem and develop solutions

What You Bring:

  • BS in Metallurgical or Material Science preferred or a commensurate level of related experience and education
  • Experience in a steelmaking environment preferred
  • Strong Organizational Skills
  • The ability to effectively collect and analyze data to derive applicable information
  • The ability to concisely communicate to internal and external customers in written and verbal format
  • The ability to present comprehensive accurate data to diver audiences
  • The ability to work effectively with a team and independently
