Job summary

ThermTech, Inc. in Wisconsin is seeking a Metallurgical Engineer to collaborate with Quality functions and lead laboratory activities, including metallurgical evaluations and reporting. The role is based in Waukesha, WI, with first shift hours and a salary range of $70,000 to $80,000 per year.

The candidate will prepare samples, maintain lab equipment, and support safe, accurate lab operations while cross-training with senior staff and supporting heat-treated materials analysis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or higher in metallurgy or materials engineering.
  • Laboratory experience preferred.
  • Heat treating experience preferred.
  • English reading proficiency required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory activities and produce lab reports.
  • Cross-train with Mechanical Testing Manager and Lab Technical Director.
  • Assist in managing lab demands to complete work on time.
  • Conduct metallurgical evaluations to determine microstructure and case depth.

Position Salary: $70,000 - $80,000 per year

Salaries are based on a number of factors, including the skills and experience of the candidates. It is common to be hired at the lower to middle end of a salary range and while it is possible to be hired at the higher end, it often requires unique circumstances, such as proven expertise.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • The Metallurgical Engineer is responsible for any laboratory activity assigned
  • Responsible for creating lab reports
  • Cross train with Mechanical Testing Manager and Lab Technical Director
  • Assist in managing the lab's demands to complete all lab work in a timely manner
  • Perform metallurgical evaluations to determine the microstructure and case depth of heat-treated samples
  • Document lab results in Bluestreak, Midwest Metallurgical Laboratories (MML) in-house operating system
  • Perform various other metallurgical evaluations including but not limited to spectroscopy, grain flow, and grain size.
  • Section and prepare samples for evaluation
  • Perform micro-hardness testing
  • Document and interpret photographs of sample microstructures
  • Perform basic maintenance on all lab equipment
  • Perform verification activities on equipment as required
  • Verify tags are accurate and complete
  • Maintain sample archive
  • Prepare items for transfer between various work centers
  • Generate, fill out, and assist in the investigation of non-conformances
  • Ensure lab organization & cleanliness

Physical & Mental Demands
