Job summary

M1 Support Services seeks a Metal Trades Assistant in Columbus, MS to perform basic sheet metal, fiberglass, and plastic repairs and fabricate elementary parts using shop equipment. You will assist in basic structural repair, machining, welding, and on/off-equipment maintenance for aircraft and engines in a fast-paced shop environment.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of metal working and ability to read drawings, blueprints, and maintenance instructions.
• Completion of an approved formal metal working course.
• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Completion of high school or the equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic repairs and modifications per technical data for metal, fiberglass, plastic, and honeycomb components.
• Performs basic maintenance and repair and cleaning of assigned equipment.
• Enters required data on maintenance forms and CAMS, notes actions in aircraft records.
• Maintains shop equipment and hand tools per established procedures.
• Assists metals processing specialist and performs other basic metal working tasks.
• Operates portable fire-fighting equipment.
• May be assigned to maintain TO files, shop stock, CTKs, or hazardous waste areas.
• Practices good housekeeping, tool control, and FOD prevention/awareness, and safety at all times.
• Shall assist other personnel and work centers as directed.
• Must promote Company values, policies, and standards of conduct.
• Must be customer oriented and ensure professional coordination with base agencies.
• Must be able to work day shift, night shift, or weekend duty as required.
• Shall perform other duties assigned to include TDY and travel.
• Receives cross-utilization training (CUT) and is qualified to perform those maintenance tasks.
• Accomplishes all actions with the guidance of higher grade personnel.
