Job summary

Working at our Cincinnati Aviation Component Service Center

Our ACSC facility develops and conducts a wide array of engine component repairs - including rotating parts, complex assemblies and nozzles on 29 different engine models.


Role Overview

The thermal spray operator must be proficient in all aspects of the coating process including masking, surface preparation, spraying, unmasking and inspecting. The ability to set up and operate various forms of thermal spray coating equipment which may include plasma spray and/or high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) processes. Also operate supporting process equipment ranging from fully automatic robotic equipment to handheld equipment. Monitor equipment performance to ensure proper operation. Isolate and replace consumable components as needed and perform periodic minor maintenance to maintain equipment. Use various hand tools for setting up and troubleshooting equipment. Use various gauges and test equipment, such as micrometers, verniers, and profilometers for measuring part conditions. Work collaboratively with process engineers on coating development tests, troubleshooting equipment, and implementing process improvements. Interpret and apply approved written work instructions that may include engineering schematics, sketches and/or cross-sections. Work collaboratively with other team members under a minimum amount of supervision. Perform daily quality control testing by spraying test specimens. Complete all necessary paperwork which may include operational signoffs, data collection, and metallography lab testing forms.


Required Qualifications


  • High school diploma, or GED

  • 2 years of experience with the use of basic precision measuring instruments including micrometers, dial calipers, and dial indicators.

  • 2 years of experience with operating various hand and power tools and basic machine tools and equipment.

  • 2 years of experience with the use of shop math, including fractions, decimals, percentages, and basic geometry.

  • 2 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment and operating manufacturing machinery or processes.


Preferred Qualifications


  • 2 years minimum experience operating thermal spray equipment

  • 2 years minimum experience operating robotic equipment

  • 2 years minimum experience masking parts for manufacturing processes

  • 2 years minimum experience using blasting equipment to prepare surfaces for manufacturing processes

  • 1-year minimum experience reading and interpreting engine manuals

  • 1-year minimum experience inspecting aircraft hardware


Additional Information

Wages $33.85 per hour plus 10% differential for 2nd or 3rd Shift. Work in a noisy, hot and abrasive environment, wearing appropriate safety gear such as eye protection, respirator, safety shoes, gloves, and shop coat for extended periods of time. Be required to pass a written and practical examination to become a qualified thermal spray operator and maintain status with annual re-qualification.
