Job summary

Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh company, is seeking a Painter II for our production team. You will sand, mask, and apply topcoat to truck parts and major components, maintaining a safe, clean work environment while mentoring new hires.

We offer shift options, competitive pay starting at 21.95 per hour plus $2.00 technical pay and a 2nd shift premium, plus benefits from Day 1 and opportunities for career growth.

Qualifications

  • Experience with automotive painting and/or metal finishing.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree is a plus.
  • Ability to read blueprints and shop drawings.
  • Willingness to work on manufacturing floor with safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Sand, mask and apply topcoat to truck parts and major components.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work environment and mentor new hires.
  • Inspect and repair defects in painted parts and panels.
  • Use hand and power tools for prep and painting tasks.
  • Communicate with teammates to ensure smooth workflow and safety.
  • Read truck prints on computer and sign off tasks.

They may inspect the work of others and repair defects. They provide mentoring, training, and work instructions to new hires and/or recently transferred co-workers.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Use hand and power tools to prep truck parts and panels for the painting processEvenly apply primer and paint to parts and panelsInspect and fix defects on parts and panelsBleed lines, apply sealer, and apply paint to parts and panelsDetect unpainted areas or paint defects on parts and panels and correct as neededCaulk, tape, and hang parts and panelsRotate between painting, sanding and tapingTransport truck parts and panels to and from designated areasPush/pull carts filled with parts and equipment with the help of other co-workers to designated areaAssist co-workers on lifting parts and panels and toolsReview check sheets and notesClean work area and work toolsCommunicate verbally with co-workers to keep a safe working environmentSweep and clean work area and equipmentBe responsive to needs of co-workers and supervisorsUse a computer to locate and read truck prints and sign off job tasksParticipate in onboarding training (within 6 months of start date) and annual training related to being a hazardous waste handler as required by the EPA RCRA hazardous waste rules. This will include ability to understand what waste hazards are, storage time limits, satellite accumulation, marking, labeling, weekly inspections, aisle space, storage, manifest shipping, use and location of emergency equipment, response to spills and fires, evacuation routes, etc. RCRA training records will be maintained as required.MARGINALWORK FUNCTIONS:*These functions may be considered essential based on location, position, and other factors.Review daily paperwork*Work overtime if needed*Climb onto roof of trucks with the use of fall restraints to perform sanding and painting duties*Read blueprints of truck*Mix paint and empty waste paint*Operate motorized equipment*Regulate paint kitchen and dump waste paint*BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Experience with automotive painting and/or metal finishingPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Four years of relevant experience OR High School Diploma or equivalentAssociate degree in Auto Body repair or related areaFour years of experience with automotive painting and/or metal finishingKEY ABILITIES NEEDED TO COMPLETE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:*All positions require the ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
