Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh company, is seeking a Painter I to prepare, prime, and paint truck parts and panels. You will use hand and power tools, perform prep work, and maintain a clean, safe work area while mentoring newer hires.

Competitive Pay – pay based on experience and education, minimum starting rate $21.23 per hour

Shift times and overtime hours vary dependent on position, department, and location
2nd shift: Monday – Thursday, four 10 hour days, overtime worked at the end of shift and on Friday’s with occasional Saturdays
The positions within Painter I prepare the surface of truck parts and panels for priming and painting. Workers operate hand and power tools and equipment in order to prep, repair, and clean truck parts and panels for the priming and painting process. They may perform priming on truck parts or panels as directed and must maintain a safe and clean work environment. They provide mentoring, training, and work instructions to new hires and/or recently transferred co-workers.
Use hand and power tools to prep truck parts and panels for the painting process
Caulk, hand sand, DA sand and buff parts and panels
Inspect and detect defects in parts and panels and repair as needed
Paint and prime truck parts and panels as directed
Understand parts, equipment, and tools used for the paint prepping process
Push and pull parts racks and lift parts and panels off of and onto carts and hang and unhang parts and panels for paint process
Lift parts and equipment
Use of a cart to transport truck parts and panels to and from designated areas for paint preparation
Follow written and verbal instructions in order to keep a safe working environment and to complete work tasks
Communicate verbally with co-workers to keep a safe working environment
Sweep and clean work area and equipment
Be responsive to needs of co-workers and supervisors
Use a computer to locate and read truck prints and sign off job tasks
Participate in onboarding training (within 6 months of start date) and annual training related to being a hazardous waste handler as required by the EPA RCRA hazardous waste rules. This will include ability to understand what waste hazards are, storage time limits, satellite accumulation, marking, labeling, weekly inspections, aisle space, storage, manifest shipping, use and location of emergency equipment, response to spills and fires, evacuation routes, etc. RCRA training records will be maintained as required.
These functions may be considered essential based on location, position, and other factors.

Climb onto roof of trucks to perform sanding and painting duties
Read blueprints of truck
Operate a materials cart, forklift or tractor to move components
Two years of relevant experience OR High School Diploma or equivalent
Associate degree in Auto Body repair or related area
Two years of experience with automotive painting and/or metal finishing

Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills

Maintain balance while walking on slippery floor, ladders, and while pushing a cart with equipment/parts
Perform tasks while crouching, sitting, kneeling, or in an awkward position
Perform safe lifting of equipment and tools
Use vibratory tools throughout the shift
Use both hands for tool operation, carrying of parts, and assisting co-workers with heavy lifting of parts or panels
Use a computer to read prints on trucks and sign off job tasks
