Job summary

Chromalox Fab Prep is seeking a Metal Fabricator to join our team in Ogden, UT. The role focuses on CNC plasma cutting, weld prep, and related fabrication work per engineering drawings and production requirements.

You will program, set up, and operate CNC plasma cutting equipment, inspect parts, and maintain inventory and equipment. Collaboration with a team is essential to meet quality standards and safety guidelines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years in manufacturing, fabrication, CNC cutting, or related.
• 2) Experience operating CNC plasma cutting equipment preferred.
• 3) Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, work orders, and technical documents.
• 4) Strong math skills, including fractions, decimals, and measurements.
• 5) Ability to use measuring and inspection equipment accurately.
• 6) Basic computer skills for CNC programming and production documentation.
• 7) Good verbal and written communication skills.
• 8) Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work orders, and shop instructions to determine cutting requirements and sequence of operations.
• Program, set up, and operate CNC plasma cutting equipment to produce parts that meet quality and dimensional specifications.
• Verify material type, thickness, and part dimensions prior to processing.
• Inspect completed parts using measuring devices such as tape measures, calipers, squares, and other inspection tools to ensure conformance to specifications.
• Remove cut parts from plasma table and prepare material for downstream operations.
• Clean, grind, deburr, and finish plasma-cut components to remove slag, sharp edges, and other imperfections.
• Maintain accurate inventory of plate, sheet, and raw materials used in plasma cutting operations.
• Monitor inventory levels and communicate material requirements to supervision.
• Perform basic preventive maintenance and routine housekeeping of the plasma table and related equipment.
• Assist with operation of horizontal band saws and radial arm drills as needed to support production requirements.
• Maintain quality standards by conducting inspections and verifying compliance with drawings and specifications.
• Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Work individually and as part of a team to improve safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
• Crosstrain and demonstrate competency in other fabrication department processes as production needs require.
• Assist in training team members on equipment operation and departmental procedures when requested.
• Support company, departmental, and safety policies, procedures, programs, and initiatives.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) initiatives.

As the Fab Prep Machine Operator, you will join our Fab Prep Team and support by programming, setting up, and operating CNC plasma cutting equipment to produce quality parts according to engineering drawings and production requirements. This position oversees material inventory related to plasma operations, performs part cleaning and deburring activities, and ensures equipment is properly maintained. The operator may also assist with cutting material using a horizontal band saw and drilling operations using a radial arm drill as required to support production needs.
