Job Summary
This position serves as a cafeteria and/or delicatessen/bakery worker helping in the preparation, presentation and serving of specialty meats, delicacies, preserved foods, cheeses, salads, breads and sweets to patrons. It also involves cleaning counters and trays, washing dishes, and maintaining the cleanliness of preparation, work and display areas as well as inspecting and cleaning equipment. Performance is evaluated on compliance with instructions, accepted serving practices, customer service skills, and sanitary requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities
- Set up food on serving lines and portion food for individual servings according to instructions and time requirements.
- Serve food to those in serving lines, refill cold bars, salad bars, pastry cabinets, condiments, and juice dispensers, and set up dining rooms efficiently.
- Make coffee per established procedures.
- Replace glassware, dishes, and silverware, and refill condiment containers.
- Remove dishes, glasses, and silverware from serving counters.
- Mix washing solutions and operate the commercial dishwashing machine; load, unload, and wash dishes, glassware, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils by hand.
- Break down the bussing cart, load the dishwasher, and place dishware in proper locations after drying.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary condition of all equipment, utensils, work areas, tables, restrooms, exterior of buildings, etc., ensuring sanitization, cleaning processes, and procedures are adhered to and standards are met.
- Empty trash containers and manage waste and recyclables according to established standards and procedures.
- Clean and sanitize food preparation and dining room tables.
- Clean commercial kitchen equipment such as fryers, ovens, kettles, grills, mixers, choppers, slicers, refrigerators, warmers, and sinks.
- Sweep and mop floors.
- Follow uniform requirements as prescribed in company rules and contract requirements.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Proficient written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to function well in a high‑paced and sometimes stressful environment.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations with all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two years of related experience (preferred).
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged standing, bending, reaching, and hand work.
- Occasional exposure to prolonged noise levels.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
- Ability to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands as necessary.
- Ability to hear and see to meet safety requirements.
- Occasional exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals.
Special Qualifications/Requirements
- Must be able to successfully pass a federal, state, or local government background investigation.
